Outdoor Education Seasonal Employment

The Outdoor Education department at Bradford Woods is always on the lookout for committed candidates eager to make an impact in the lives of youth and adults. For over 60 years, we’ve used our unique 2,500-acre outdoor center to offer state curriculum-based environmental education programs, facilitated teambuilding experiences, and recreational opportunities – each to a diverse population. Our seasonal instructors are the backbone of these programs. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, including recreation, environmental and adventure education, resource management, education, biology, and much more. If you love the outdoors and want to learn how to teach children, facilitate amazing experiences, and grow alongside a community of diverse and committed peers, then we’re the right place for you. All positions include housing accommodations and meals when on duty.

Professional Outdoor Instructors

Our Professional Outdoor Instructors receive a unique opportunity to teach multiple different aspects of outdoor education: most days are spent teaching fifth graders about the environment, but other days may include leading a junior high or high school group through team building activities on our low or high challenge courses. For our instructors we seek dynamic and talented individuals with a passion for outdoor environmental and experiential education.

The summer Professional Outdoor Instructor position is still field-based, but takes on more of a summer camp flair. Programs include Environmental Explorers summer camps, team building programs, and support for recreation therapy summer camps. Instructors will fulfill roles as cabin counselors, facilitate low challenge and teambuilding programs, and support adapted climbing and nature activities for youth with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Candidates are encouraged to obtain a lifeguard certification prior to employment and be able to complete the waterfront module during training.

Program Specialists

The Environmental Education Program Specialist coordinates school programs once they arrive on property. This includes organizing POI staff and teachers/chaperones and handling logistics while the school is on-site. This position is also in the field teaching as needed and balances time between the field and the office. Whenever possible, this position supports Assistant Directors with teacher meetings, parent presentations and schedule preparation prior to the school program.

The Adventure Education Specialist coordinates leadership and team building programs on property. These events serve a diverse range of clientele, including middle school children, high school youth, emerging professionals, and adult groups. Programs may include: ground-based initiatives, low challenge courses, high challenge courses, and water-based activities such as raft-building and canoeing. The specialist also manage instructors and take on responsibility for challenge course equipment and course inspections.
